This is a popular subject at St Michael’s. Pupils are taught in a fully equipped Art room and have weekly one hour lessons with a subject specialist teacher. Pupils can experience working with 2D and 3D materials and follow a structured curriculum ensuring that skills are built upon throughout pupil’s time at the school. Pupils work in sketchbooks with inspiration being gained from looking at a wealth of artists work. In Year 6, pupils have a gallery trip to support their independent project work and visiting artists also inspire the pupils through workshops.

For those with a keen interest in Art, there are after-school clubs, which are limited to small numbers to ensure a high teacher to pupil ratio.

Design & Technology (DT) is a practical subject, encompassing creativity and imagination.

At St Michael’s School, pupils from Pre-Prep learn a variety of techniques and different skills to produce a kaleidoscope of items, including pop-up Christmas cards and 3D objects.

Pupils in the Prep department build upon these skills by learning three different subjects over the school year: cookery, construction and sewing.
