FOOD TECHNOLOGY

We are very fortunate at St. Michael’s School to have a dedicated teaching kitchen for our food technology lessons – it looks like BBC’s Masterchef.  The room contains six cooking workstations which mean children are given the opportunity to develop their culinary skills.

In the Pre-Prep department, the children visit the teaching kitchen to enhance a particular topic, for example, to make ice-lollies or gingerbread people.  In the Prep department children have one term of cookery lessons each year which form part of the Design & Technology lessons. During these lessons, children are given the opportunity to develop their cookery skills, taste food, research and design dishes and cook their designs in groups or individually. Foods we explore include bread, potatoes, soup, cooking with eggs, quiche and cheesecake.
