Offering specialist support and educational needs
Mrs. Natalie Byford, our Special Educational Needs & Disabilities Coordinator works with children who require additional support or educational needs. Some children may just need a helping hand or a boost to set them on the right path to learning; others may need more assistance to help them maximise their potential.
Individual support programmes are devised in collaboration with the parents of a child in the SEN learning framework.
Providing a quiet and safe space for learning, The Woodland Room is our dedicated space for children using the SEN framework. It is a calming area that, along with formal lessons, can be used as a space for relaxation, mindfulness exercises and breathing techniques.
Children requiring SEN support may work within a small group or on a 1:1 basis with the SENDCo for sessions either throughout school hours and before the start of the school day. These sessions are planned for along with the child’s subject teachers to ensure continuity across the curriculum.
We offer advice to parents regarding referral to outside agencies and can make referrals to the Local Authority Educational Psychology Service. Similarly, we also have access to child counselling services. Our SENDCo works closely with the Pastoral Head to ensure all our children are well provided for, happy and prepared to learn.
“As a former pupil, St. Michael's was the obvious choice. Their values and school ethos have remained the same and Sophia has become a confident, caring and hardworking individual. ”
- Eloise Lloyd, Former Parent
“Just wanted to say a big Thank You to all staff and teachers over the last few months. As a full time working Mum I don't know what I would have done without the structure provided each day.”
- Mrs Homer, Parent
“..thriving, secure, ‘family feel’ environment where children are positively nurtured as individuals and able to reach their own potential.”
- Amanda Foy, Parent
“St. Michael's is a wonderful school. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a safe haven for their child to grow, learn to be well rounded individuals with the love of God in their hearts and love for all human beings as well as develop academically putting them in a good position ready for the next level of education.”
- Mrs. Balogun, Former Parent
