School History

Almost 100 years of educational excellence

Founded in 1922 under the Headship of Sister Lucy of the Order of St. Michael and All Angels for just 12 boarders. The original building was a bungalow and which over the years is now a school which boasts a Chapel, a dedicated Nursery, specialist subject teaching rooms and a wide and varied curricular for 270 children.

The Order of nuns ran the school until 1972 when Miss Mary Warren took over as Headmistress. The last nun, Sister Joy and the last nun, Sister Joy left in the late 1970s.

Although the building and our staff have changed our school ethos has remained the same and which is why so many former parents choose to send their children to St.Michael’s.

We are continually investing to ensure children can learn using the latest technology, teaching techniques and have the best facilities possible including Google to learn through the virtual experience of being a person living in Tudor times, using Google classroom for remote learning during lockdown and a new dedicated library facility to create a quiet and calm area for children to enjoy reading a range of fiction and non-fiction books.

“As a former pupil, St. Michael's was the obvious choice. Their values and school ethos have remained the same and Sophia has become a confident, caring and hardworking individual. ”

- Eloise Lloyd, Former Parent

“Just wanted to say a big Thank You to all staff and teachers over the last few months. As a full time working Mum I don't know what I would have done without the structure provided each day.”

- Mrs Homer, Parent

“..thriving, secure, ‘family feel’ environment where children are positively nurtured as individuals and able to reach their own potential.”

- Amanda Foy, Parent

“St. Michael's is a wonderful school. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a safe haven for their child to grow, learn to be well rounded individuals with the love of God in their hearts and love for all human beings as well as develop academically putting them in a good position ready for the next level of education.”

- Mrs. Balogun, Former Parent
